University of Sheffield Studentships: Up to 60 University Studentships available for entry in 2009-10
Deadline for studentship applications to academic departments: 27 February 2009 except applicants wishing to be considered for an AHRC studentship: 31 March 2009
The University of Sheffield, one of the top-ranked research-led universities in the UK is pleased to announce a major investment in the development of our postgraduate community. 60 University Studentships are available to students wishing to undertake postgraduate study in any Faculty of the University. The Studentships will provide tuition fees at the UK/EU rate, a maintenance grant of either £6,645 or £13,290 per annum, and a Research Training Support Grant.
Studentships are available as follows:
Faculty of Arts & Humanities: one-year Masters and three-year research degreesFaculty of Engineering: three-year research degreesFaculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Health: three-year research degreesFaculty of Science: three-year research degreesFaculty of Social Sciences (including Architectural Studies and Law): one-year Masters and three-year research degrees
Eligibility
The Studentships are available to applicants who will register on their first year of study with the University in 2009-10 on a full-time programme of postgraduate study. Awards are tenable for either one year (Masters) or three years (PhD), with the latter renewable subject to satisfactory progress.
Awards are open to UK, EU and international applicants. International applicants are only eligible providing they can demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to cover the difference between the UK and international students tuition fee.
Please note that in order to be considered for a University of Sheffield or AHRC studentship, you must first apply to the University for admission to an appropriate programme of study. Students hoping to apply for funding should ensure that they have an offer of a place on a postgraduate course of study well in advance of the final deadline.
How to Apply
Interested applicants should:
Complete an application for admission as a postgraduate student. Details of how to apply for admission can be found by following the link on the right. Applications for admission should be submitted as soon as possible. You can find a listing of all academic departments within the University by clicking on the link ‘Departments and Services’ at the top of this page.

Read the notes of guidance carefully.
Arrange for two academic references to be completed.
Send all Studentship application material (i.e. the Studentship Application Form, two Studentship Reference Forms, and degree transcripts where appropriate) to the academic department in which you intend to study by Friday 27 February 2009 (or 31st March for Arts and Humanities applicants) at the latest. Details of departmental contacts can be found by clicking on the link on the right.
Following receipt of all relevant application material, the academic department will provide a supporting statement for each application that they wish to put forward to the Faculty Studentships Panel for consideration. The Studentship Application Form, Studentship Reference Forms, Transcripts and Departmental Statement will be submitted to the Research Office by the academic department by Tuesday 31 March 2009 at the latest.
Further Scholarship Information and Application

2009-2010 Graduate Scholarship Application - Marywood UniversityMaster’s Degree, Educational Specialist Degree, and Post-Baccalaureate Certification Students(Not School of Social Work Students, Speech-Language Pathology Students, andPhysician Assistant Students)
All material must be submitted by February 14, 2009.
Awards will be made on the basis of three factors: academic promise, normally represented by a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 or a graduate GPA of 3.50; professional focus and commitment; and financial need(required for specific scholarships).
File a complete admissions application. It is fully expected that each prospective student who is a scholarship applicant will have a complete admissions application on file with the Office of Graduate Admissions by February 14, 2009. The admissions application provides the supporting documentation necessary to evaluate a scholarship application.
Complete the scholarship application electronically. The scholarship application itself is on a secure server. You must press “yes” if your browser asks you if you wish to display secure items, otherwise Marywood University will not receive any of the information you type on the application upon submission.
If you declare full-time status on the scholarship application, enrollment in nine or more credits in the Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 semesters or what your graduate department defines as full enrollment in structured programs, and are awarded a full-time status scholarship and enroll for less than full-time registration in either of these semesters your scholarship award will be reduced.
If you declare part-time status on your scholarship application, The Committee on Graduate Scholarships expects part-time status students who are scholarship recipients to enroll in and maintain at least six credits in the fall semester and at least six credits in the spring semester. Part-time status scholarship recipients who fail to meet this requirement in a semester will have their scholarships rescinded for that semester.
Email a scholarship essay as a Microsoft Word document. Please type an essay (300-500 words) clarifying the relationship between your life-goals and graduate education at Marywood. Your essay will also be judged on depth of expression and use of the English language. Your essay must clearly address the following areas:
1. Describe your professional work background and experience.2. Describe your community leadership activities. Indicate if a volunteer activity.3. Describe any commendations and appreciation awards as well as undergraduate and graduate academic awards and honors.4. Describe any special projects, demonstrations, workshops, recitals, exhibits, or whatever may be appropriate to your area to indicate your abilities and interests.5. What are your short and long range career goals and objectives?6. What attracted you to your Marywood program as a vehicle for achieving your goals?

Scholarship selection results will be mailed in early April 2009. Scholarships are available for use beginning Fall 2009; they may only be used to defray tuition for Marywood courses.
Students awarded graduate assistantships for the 2009-2010 academic year who accept those positions are not eligible to receive scholarship awards as well.
Marywood University undergraduate students who are enrolled in formal five-year programs are automatically eligible for at least forty percent of their undergraduate merit award or higher for their fifth year of study at the graduate level provided they are admitted to the master’s level by their academic department.
Neither scholarship nor assistantship awards are renewed automatically each year. It is the responsibility of the student to reapply each academic year.

Masters/PgDip Scholarships for 2009-10
Centre for Russian, Central and East European Studies (CRCEES)
A consortium of the Universities of Glasgow, Nottingham, St Andrews, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Strathclyde, and the West of Scotland
Suitably qualified applicants from any branch of the Social Sciences and Humanities are invited to apply for Masters studentships and Postgraduate language diplomas for study in the 2009-10 academic year.
Applications are invited for the one-year MSc in Russian and East European Studies, University of Glasgow and for intensive one-year Postgraduate diplomas (PgDip) in Russian, Polish, Czech Serbian/Croatian and Slovene language.
